Free trial

Try it with your own card design before you decide

A trial is an organisation of your own on the real platform, set up with sample cardholders so there is something to work with from the first minute. Design a card, put a photograph through the checks, download print-ready proofs and add a digital ID to your own phone. It runs in a browser, it is free for 30 days, and you do not need a card printer.

What you get

The real platform, not a mock-up

We set the trial up for you rather than handing you an empty account, so the first thing you see is a working card office in miniature.

An organisation of your own

Named for you, private to you, and separated from every other organisation the same way a customer's is. You are its administrator and can invite colleagues.

Starter card designs in your colours

Five designs to begin from, for students, staff, contractors, visitors and access cards, drawn in your brand colours. Open one in the designer and make it yours.

Sample cardholders

A small invented roster, with photographs waiting in the review queue and others already approved, so no screen starts out empty. Keep them, archive them, or import your own.

Digital ID switched on

Issue a credential to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet, add it to your own phone, scan its code and revoke it. The same passes our customers issue.

Every setting a customer has

Single sign-on, SCIM provisioning, API keys, webhooks, retention and two-factor authentication are all there for your IT team to look over.

A person to ask

Trial questions go to the same people who answer customers, by email in New Zealand business hours. If something is unclear, that is worth our knowing.

What to try first

Six things, in about twenty minutes

In this order they follow one credential from a blank design to a pass on a phone. The names in bold are the menu items you will see.

  1. Change a card design

Open Card templates and edit one of the starter designs. Move a field, add your logo, then switch the preview to the long name to see how the design copes with a real one.

  2. Import some people

Under Card holders, choose Import CSV and upload a spreadsheet. The wizard maps the columns, previews the result and reports any row it will not take. Download a sample file of 24 invented people if you do not have one to hand.

  3. Send yourself a photo invitation

Add yourself as a card holder with your own email address and press Photo invite. Open the email on your phone, take the photograph and watch the checks respond: stand against a busy background or in poor light and it will tell you what to fix.

  4. Review and approve

Your photograph arrives in Photo review beside the sample ones. Approve it, and reject one of the others with a reason to see what the cardholder is sent.

  5. Make an order and check the proofs

Add a few people to an order under Orders and submit it. Each card is rendered from the locked design, and the proof sheet shows every one before anything is printed.

  6. Put the ID on your phone, then revoke it

On your own record, press Send digital ID. The email that arrives has the link to add it to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet. Scan its code to open the public verification page, then revoke the card under Issued cards and scan it again.

What needs more than a browser

Printing, encoding and database sync

Three parts of the platform touch equipment on your site. All three can be tried, and two of them are better done together with us.

  • Printing on your own printer. Download the print agent from the trial's settings and install it on the PC beside the card printer. It connects outbound, so there is no firewall change to ask for.
  • Encoding for access control. Card numbers and keys belong to your access control system, so this is configured with you rather than guessed at in a trial.
  • Sync with a database you already run. The sync agent is installed and rehearsed against a copy of your data first. That is a short project, not a switch.
  • Cards printed by us. If you would like to hold a finished card, ask and we will print a few from your trial design and courier them.
How it runs

From request to first sign-in

  1. You ask

The form below takes a minute. Tell us your organisation and, if you like, your brand colours.

  2. We set it up

A person creates your organisation and loads the sample data, usually within one working day.

  3. You get an invitation

An email with a link to choose your password. Sign in at app.cardoffice.nz and start with the six steps above.

  4. Thirty days later

Carry on as a customer and keep what you built, or we close the trial and delete what is in it.

Request a trial

Tell us who it is for

We ask for a work email and the name of your organisation because the trial is set up in that name, and because a platform that issues identity credentials should know who it has given an account to.

  • No cost and no card details. Nothing renews by itself.
  • No obligation. If it is not a fit, say so and we will close it.
  • No sales sequence. One email with your invitation, and answers when you ask.

Would you rather be shown around first? Book a consultation and we will walk through it against how you issue cards today.

We use your details only to set up and support your trial. See the privacy statement.

Common questions

Frequently asked

Is the trial really free?

Yes. There is no charge, no card details are taken and nothing renews by itself. The only things that cost money are things you would ask for separately, such as having us print and courier a batch of real cards.

Do we need a card printer to try it?

No. Card design, importing people, photo collection and review, orders, proof sheets, digital ID and verification all work in a browser. If you do have a card printer, you can install the print agent beside it during the trial and print real cards on your own stock.

Is it a demo or the real platform?

The real platform. A trial is an organisation of your own on the same system our customers use, separated from every other organisation in the same way theirs are. Nothing is a mock-up, which also means anything you build in the trial is still there if you carry on.

Should we load our real cardholders?

Start with the sample people, and add yourself and a colleague or two so you can see the whole journey with a real photograph and a real phone. Hold your full roster back until the paperwork is in place: that is when a data processing agreement covers it properly.

How long does it last, and what happens at the end?

Thirty days from the day your invitation is sent, and longer if you ask. At the end you either carry on as a customer, keeping the designs and settings you made, or we close the trial and delete what is in it. Ask for deletion sooner at any time and it is done.

Can several of us use it?

Yes. You are the administrator of your trial organisation, so you can invite colleagues yourself and give them a staff or print operator role. There are no per-seat limits in a trial or afterwards.

Can we test single sign-on, SCIM or the API?

Yes. Single sign-on, SCIM provisioning, API keys and webhooks are all in the trial's settings, and the setup guides are in the portal's documentation. Encoding into an access control system and syncing with an on-site database are set up with us, so ask for a consultation alongside the trial.

Twenty minutes with the real thing

The quickest way to judge a card platform is to make a card with it. Ask for a trial, or ask for a conversation first.
